New ISTA 3P Reflects India’s Parcel Network
ISTA introduced Project 3P for packaged products moving through India’s parcel system. Regional handling data can change a packaging brief.
ISTA describes Project 3P as a general-simulation test for packaged products up to 70 kg shipped through the Indian parcel network. It says regional field research informed the procedure because local handling and climate conditions may differ from other parcel systems.
Do not assume one route represents every route
For exporters, the destination and handoff chain matter. A case that works in one distribution system may face different vibration, shocks or atmospheric exposure elsewhere. Buyers should include the intended route in the packaging design brief and confirm which test, if any, is appropriate.
- Document the destination, carriers and number of handling steps.
- Compare the actual packed product with the procedure’s stated scope.
- Ask the test lab to use the current edition and record deviations.
